Birthday Countdown

How the birthday countdown works

The countdown finds the next time your birthday occurs. If this year’s date has already passed, it automatically counts down to next year. Everything runs in your browser, so your birthday is never stored or sent anywhere.

Days left versus calendar dates

The timer counts complete 24-hour periods plus the remaining hours, minutes and seconds. A birthday tomorrow can therefore show zero full days and several hours. The target is midnight at the start of your birthday in your device's local time zone, not your birth time.

What happens on February 29?

For a February 29 birthday, this timer counts to the next actual February 29 in a leap year. It does not substitute February 28 or March 1. If you celebrate on one of those dates in other years, select that celebration date instead. On your selected birthday, the timer shows a birthday message.

Planning with your countdown

• Share your date page when you invite friends so everyone has the date.
• Use the birthday wish generator to prepare a message.
• Check the age calculator when you need an exact age rather than time remaining.
